Coming Up on Training

Is it safe to come out now that the Super Bowl is over?  I didn't watch a single second, and stuck with movies and TV shows.  Starz had Walk the Line, Freeform had Snow White for its 80th anniversary, and then PBS had Victoria for its Sunday showing.

I'm staring down the barrel of training, and I almost can't believe it.  I feel like I just bought my 2018 planner and wrote down my training plan.  Training starts in 2 weeks, and I don't feel ready.  After I spent half of January shaking the rust off, I feel like I need more time to just be.  Have a little bit more fun and take it easy before reality hits. I have been prepping though.

New shoes: check
More Nuun: check
More Rocktape: check

Those are the 3 most important things right now.  I have to have Nuun after a good workout, otherwise I get a killer headache.  I forgot about that a couple weeks ago, and it wasn't pleasant.  I sweated out those nutrients and my head ached.

I have everything except energy chews, but I won't get there until maybe 5 miles.  I use Sports Beans because they come in a resealable bag, and it's small.  I can tuck that bag into my running belt and it doesn't take up that much room.  The trick will be fueling after those runs.  My stomach gets jostled during a run, and I need to wait for it to calm down before I can eat anything.  I need to get some good snacks for when the hunger hits.

Tuesdays on the Run with PattyErika, and Marcia.

  1. My only complaint about Sports Beans is I tend to drop them everywhere. All the best with your upcoming training cycle!

    1. I find I actually have to dig the Sports Beans out of the bag. I eat them on walk breaks so I don't lose any.

  2. It surprised me at Disney this year to see them handing out sports beans instead of GU packs! I liked them! :)

    1. I never liked the GU packs. I always tried not to step on that packets, and it was like avoiding gum.

  3. I like Nuun but I don't always drink it after a run. Sometimes I like to even drink it when I am not running because it's a low calorie beverage. I never do the sports beans because I think they take too long to chew and I have a fear of choking on them on something( I know, I'm weird).

    1. I chew them on my walk break so I can slow down and chew them. They can be sticky.

  4. Sounds like you have a good plan! That's an interesting comment about nuun. I noticed in the Summer that I would often get headaches on days I ran before work. Maybe I need to start drinking nuun during work on those days. Thanks for the idea!

    1. I have to replenish the nutrients, especially in the summer. I can sweat pretty good in the heat.

  5. I normally fuel with shot bloks. But during the half in Jan at Disney, I felt underfueled and sluggish (which was bad bad bad considering I still had a full the next day!) and I supplemented my fuel with the powerade and sport beans they had on course, and the extra fuel definitely helped

    1. It's good that you got extra fuel. It's not fun feeling run down during a race.

  6. I didn't watch a lick of it either. Of course I was sick, but even if I'd been well, since my husband's team wasn't involved, he didn't really care if it was on. He watched after I went to bed.

I rarely use anything on the run until about 7-8 miles. But there's always a snack for afterwards! Except maybe the shorter runs.

    1. I was sick during one Super Bowl, when I was still watching football. I kept dozing off during the game.

  8. I've never tried Sports Beans before, but I know a lot of people rave about them. I really should give them a try sometime.
