Monday Musings 1/29

Happy Monday!  This'll only be the second week to work 5 full days since the new year.  It wasn't so hard the week before MLK day, so I can do it again, right?

After a good birthday week, my mom and I went to Snooze on Saturday to celebrate both our birthdays.  Hers is a couple weeks after mine, and since my parents will be skiing her birthday weekend, we decided to celebrate both.  I went with a pancake flight with their pineapple upside down, sweet potato, and cinnamon roll pancakes.  Delish!  There's only been one time I've been able to completely finish the pancake flight, and all other times were just a couple bites left.  When I'm stuffed, I'm stuffed.

After that, we went shopping, and I picked up a weight rack at Dicks.  All the dumbbells have been on the floor, and my OCD kicked in.  I wanted something that could organize them all and get them off the floor.  I think it took me 15-ish minutes to put it together.  It all looks much better :)

I saw this shirt too at Dick's and didn't get it, but I'm thinking about it.  It's the perfect lounging shirt.

The rest of Saturday was a normal weekend day.  My running is easier and flowing again, and I'm pushing my way up to 3 miles.  I'm getting comfortable with it all, which feels good with training starting less than a month away.  I'm still messing with my playlist, but I know I have my staples, and I'm looking for bands that started in San Francisco.  So far I only have Jefferson Airplane, but I'll keep looking.  I think White Rabbit will work well with part of that Hayes Street Hill.

Sunday was Pure Barre with some Jillian Michaels thrown in.  I'm still working on my core, and wanted something different from the PB exercises.  Some of the ab work strains my hip flexors, so I need other exercises that don't bother my hip flexors.  It was a good combo, and when I went to get lunch at Panera (and to get my free birthday treat), my legs were shaking a little while I was standing in line.

I also started another book over the weekend.  I read Stalking Jack the Ripper back in October, and now I'm reading the next book in that series, Hunting Prince Dracula.  I started reading it Saturday night, but after only 1 chapter, my eyes couldn't stay open, so I went to sleep and I picked up the book again Sunday afternoon.  It's amazing how much progress I can make when I'm fully rested.

Linking up with Holly and Wendy for Weekend Wrap-up.

  5. I've only had a pancake flight once...when we were in Chicago last summer for the U2 concert. I have no recollection of the restaurant (or where it actually was located LOL)....but, OMG, the pancakes were good!

    1. It did. I get on an organizing kick every once in a while. Hard to imagine I had such a messy room as a teen.

  8. Mmmm! I love Snooze. There's also Syrup in downtown Denver. I guess Colorado loves it's pancakes. Glad your return to running is going well. Smart to keep working on your core carefully.

  11. Glad to hear you had a nice birthday week and celebrated with your mom! Sometimes my hips or low back feel to core exercises too much so I try to adjust as best as I can.

    1. It's my hip flexors in barre, since we're on the ground with our legs extended. It's uncomfortable so I have to find something else.

  13. Ugh, I need a weight rack because I'm tired of mine being on the floor! I store them in a closet though, so at least they stay out of the way!
