Monday Musings 1/1

Holy cow!  It's 2018!  How has everyone's holiday been?  I did have to work this past Thursday and Friday, but I went right into a 3-day weekend.  I like this pattern of having breaks in December.  I had scheduled the Friday before Christmas off, and then the Wednesday after, but I had some extra time due to being sick!

Here are the highlights, otherwise the post will be way too long:

* I started my time off sick.  I was physically sick at work Wednesday, and went home to finish the work day from my couch.  Allie didn't understand why I couldn't snuggle.  She loves to sprawl on my stomach, which was a no-no that day.

* I worked from home Thursday morning during a snowstorm.  My boss said to make sure to take time to rest that day so I would have a good holiday.  I headed up to my parents house a little early, with Dad driving.  He was in town to get the Christmas roast and desserts.  Since we headed up early, we missed the accident on I-70 that happened during rush hour.  Small blessings for being sick.  Allie had had enough of the drive when we hit Winter Park, and started letting us know exactly how she felt.  Loudly.

* I felt better Friday, and my mom and I watched While You Were Sleeping.  I also huffed and puffed my way through a stationary bike workout.  The altitude is real up there!

* It snowed all. day. long. Saturday.  I did my one and only strength workout with Pure Barre at home.  I did see the fox though.  She was hunting for food in the "back yard".

* My parents and I went to see Star Wars Christmas Eve day.  After the big storm Saturday, we needed to do something away from the house.  While I enjoyed the movie, I thought 2.5 hours was too long.  I kept expecting it to go to credits, but it kept going.

* We played Rudolph Monopoly Christmas Eve after dinner.  I ended up with 2 monopolies, and I put stables on a pack of 3.  Then my dad landed on one of those spaces and I wiped him out.  I don't know if I won, but we ended the game after that.

* Christmas day was just a veg type day.  Santa did good work, and I got both running and non-running gifts.

* Tuesday was the last day I was at my parents' house.  My mom and I got out for errands, but I still had plenty of time to veg.  I veg a lot at their place.  It's nice to get away from everything and shut my brain off.

* Wednesday they drove Allie and me back home, and then us humans met my grandfather for lunch.  We found a good place in Golden, and I got leftovers so I could have lunch at work Thursday.

Thursday and Friday were back to reality.  It's always hard to get back into the groove after vacation.  The longer the vacation, the more cranky I am.

The last few days have been really cold, so I've stayed inside and enjoyed kitty snuggles.  She's a pretty good thermometer when it comes to cold.  The colder it is, the more snuggles she wants.  In between I've been on the treadmill, or doing Pure Barre.  Now that I have a 2018 planner, I can sit down and plan out my training from Bay to Breakers.  Let's hope 2018 is a good year :)

Linking up with Hoho Runs and MissSippiPiddlin for Weekend Wrap-up.

  1. Despite the illness, it sounds like it was a good holiday. And kitty snuggles are the best (except when you want to get up!).

Bay to Breakers should be really fun! Happy New Year!

  2. It seems like everyone is sick right now! I've been battling a little cold but nothing like I've been seeing in my patients at work!

Love the medal rack. I'd agree, Santa did good!

    1. Santa did really good. I couldn't hang all of my medals, but now I can, and I have plenty of room to build.

    1. It's hard to get back to working 5 days a week since December has Christmas break, and then January has a couple holidays too. I don't have anything in February.

  4. Oh I'm so sorry that you were sick! There's definitely something going around as most of my office has been sick the past 3 weeks.

It looks like you had an awesome Christmas and I love that medal rack!

  5. Sorry to hear that you started off the week sick!Sounds like overall it was a good visit with the parents. Sometimes it is just nice to veg out, especially when it's snowy, you have more of an excuse to do so.

    1. It's super easy to veg out when it's snowing. I took full advantage of that.

    1. I did. Thankfully I healed quickly, but my mom would've taken care of me if it had lingered.

  7. I'm sorry you started the holiday sick, but it sounds like a you had a wonderful time at your parents. Just hanging out around the house sounds like a perfect way to spend your time. It looks like you had an amazing view too. Happy New Year and thanks for linking!

  8. What a fun break! When you travel with Allie, do you keep her in a cat carrier while in the car? How long does it take and does she mind it? My cats hate the carrier and going in the car, but I think that's because the only place they go is the vet!

    1. Yes, she's in a carrier. She has bad anxiety, which is why she poops, even when I pill her to take the edge off. She doesn't want to leave her home, but she loves my parents' place.

    1. It's easy to relax. I don't even have to cook since my mom does it. I ask if there's anything I can do, but mostly she says no.
