Running Wardrobe

Does your running wardrobe change over time?  Not only has the material I run in changed (cotton socks?  No wonder I always had blisters), but what I've worn has changed.  I used to wear strictly t-shirts and shorts, sometimes running tights depending on the weather.  Now I wear a ton of running tank tops and capris most of the time.  I wear Running Skirts in the summer and capris the rest of the time.  Sometimes even Running Skirts over my capris.

It's no secret my new favorite top is from Oiselle.  I had it printed in bold letters on my birthday list, and I would live in it if I could.  Too bad I have to wear business casual at work.  Sometimes I think I should've been a trainer/coach to take full advantage of my running clothes.  I have more fun wearing my workout clothes.

It's funny how I'm willing to splurge on good running gear, but not splurge on work clothes.  I want the same thing out of either wardrobe, to be of high quality, and last me a while.  I do laugh about it when I wait and wait and wait until I buy a new piece for work, but I can spend at the drop of a hat when it comes to running.

  1. I can definitely see my running wardrobe is changing over time as I figure out good pieces to invest in and which areas I can cut corners in. I tend to run in a lot of race shirts since I have them, they were free, and I might as well use them!

    1. I'm very picky about my race shirts. I like loose tank tops at the moment so tighter shirts aren't working for me. I used to wear short sleeve shirts all the time though.

  2. When I go back to work (next year most likely!) I know I'll have the same feeling. But but but... that's the price of a sparkle skirt! lol So funny how we think.

    1. And running shoes are more than normal shoes. Yes, I'm always looking for a discount, but even then, running shoes cost more.

  3. I love some of the more expensive workout gear but it's so hard for me to justify the cost, even though I know they are super high quality! I have to try out Oiselle, I know people love their brand.

    1. It took me a little bit to try Oiselle, but both my pieces were gifts. A perfect way to try new brands. I'm hooked.

  4. I think my outfit can directly correlate to my race day performance! If I'm in clothes I love then I always end up racing better - probably because I'm not tugging or adjusting. Occasionally I'll buy something new for a race, train in it once and hope it works out - but more often than not, the new stuff is "training gear" until I sort through which ones are my favorite then THOSE get promoted to race day gear! :) Happy TOTR!

    1. I train in my gear all the time, then choose things to pack for a race. I always test things out more than once to make sure I won't chafe.

  5. I am the same way. I wouldn't think anything spending money on workout clothes. But shopping for work clothes...Yuck! I have been taking some of my sister's clothes she doesn't where anymore. Old to her,new to me...score!

    1. Lucky. I don't have any sisters to have that option. I don't buy a lot of work clothes though because I wear the same stuff all the time.

  6. I would rather spend my money on running clothes than work clothes too! And Oiselle tops are the best:)

    1. I'm creating a Oiselle wishlist as they come out with new designs. If Tink goes well, I'll spring for one.

  7. I am willing to spend $120-plus on running shoes, but start in the clearance rack for work clothes. Ha!

    1. I do look for discounts with shoes, but even then I'm willing to pay it when it's more than a nice work top or pants.

  8. I'm lucky my work clothes are incredibly cheap (I wear scrubs) so I can spend my money on nice workout clothes. The Oiselle Flyte tops are my favorites-especially the purple :)

    1. My cousin's in medicine and I do envy her scrubs. They look so comfy too, and easy to shop for. I'm more of a splurge shopper, so it's easier to buy workout gear.

  9. That's the beauty of working from home - I'm rarely in anything other than running clothes. Of course, on the rare occasion where I have to meet with a client, I'm totally unprepared LOL.

    1. My mom works from home and wears black yoga pants. I've been tempted to do the same thing, but the Nike logo would give it away.

  10. Ha I'm the same way, it kills me to buy clothes for work and I have such a hard time with getting motivated to shop but put me in a sporting goods store and I'll break the bank! :)

    1. Yes! Whenever I need to get one thing, I have to remind myself to only get that one thing and not the whole section.

  11. I too ran in cotton when I first started running. What a huge mistake!

    1. It's amazing what we used to run in. I really wondered why I kept getting blisters on my feet and now, no blisters.

  12. Ha yes! I look back on what I ran in when I first started running and it has changed SO much. It has made my runs so much more comfortable!

    1. Yes, it's comfortable now, no chafing, and I'm careful reading the label to make sure there's NO cotton.

  13. I started running in the 2nd grade, and had a dad who was a runner so I never made any cotton running mistakes.
But I've made a few with socks through the years, that is one thing once I find a great pair I like to go back and buy as many as I can in case they change the style.

    1. My dad's a runner but never said anything about my socks. When I did start running, I asked him a bunch of questions to avoid rookie mistakes.

  14. I used to wear a lot of cotton, black bottoms, white shoes, and white tops! Now, the crazier the colors, the better. It helps me get motivated to workout when I'm wearing something fun. =)

    1. My wardrobe used to be so boring, but color is so much fun now. I'm even getting picky about the color of my shoes.

  15. Cute shirt - just ordered the same one with a holiday gift card :) I am in the same predicament, more workouts clothes than work clothes.
